Each movement in Eight Brocades(Ba Duan Jin) includes a traditional Chinese medicine word. The first movement called “Double Hands Support the Heaven to Regular Triple Warmers”. The Triple Warmers is a Traditional Chinese Medicine word. What is Triple Warmers(San Jiao)? And how it work?
In Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM),the Triple Warmer is associated with the concept of “San Jiao” in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is considered as a network of pathways that connects and communications between the upper, middle and lower warmer. These pathways are not physical channels but energetic meridians through which Qi flows.
The three interconnected areas in the chest and abdominal cavities .The area above intercoastal muscle is Upper Warmer, which responsible for the functions of the heart and lungs. Middle Warmer is between intercoastal muscle and the belly, it associated with the digestive system and spleen. Lower Warmer is below the belly, linked to the kidneys, bladder, and reproductive organs. The internal organs are not separated, in fact they are interconnected with other organs and systems in the body.
Triple Warmers acts as a communication network, facilitating the exchange of substances and energy among the three areas. In TCM, the internal organs are seen as pairs ,like Heart and Small Intestine ,Lungs and Large Intestine, Liver and Gallbladder, Kidneys and Bladder. These pair organs have a complementary relationship and influencing each other’s functions, restore harmony and balance to the body’s system. If one of the organ blocked or imbalanced, can cause imbalance to the others.
If the Triple Warmer becomes blocked or imbalanced, it can lead to various health issues. When the Triple Warmer is clear and unobstructed, it supports the harmonious flow of Qi and fluids throughout the body.
The first movement: Double Hands Support the Heaven. As the hands raised ,lift the internal organs, and when the hands drop down, it stimulate a massaging effect on the internal organs. The gentle massage helps to stimulate and invigorate the organs, improving their function and preventing stagnation.
In TCM, the concept of Qi sink refers to the downward movement of Qi, which can result in various health issues like hemorrhoids prolapse, incontinence ,or miscarriage. By lifting Qi upward through” Double Hands Support the Heaven”, it helps to counteract Qi sink and prevent these health conditions.
The upward movement of the hands in this exercise have a positive impact on lifting the heart and spine. Lifting the heart relates to the emotion, promoting a sense of upliftment, and emotional well-being. Lifting the spine helps improve posture and spinal alignment.
